Founding Committee

The founding committee consisted of several leaders, both male and female, from various faiths and organizations:  Una Saunders and Olive Ziegler of the YWCA; Constance Body, an Anglican Church worker; Dr. Winnifred Thomas; Methodist minister, Rev. Frank Langford; Presbyterian minister, Rev. J.C. Robertson; and Rev. and Mrs. Percy R. Hayward of the Baptist Church.

Today, CGIT continues its ecumenical tradition with participation from the United Church of Canada, The Presbyterian Church in Canada, and Canadian Baptist Ministries: Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec, United Baptist Convention of Atlantic Provinces, and Baptist Union of Western Canada.

World History

In 1927, twenty-two years before Newfoundland became part of the Dominion of Canada, the CGIT program had been transported across Cabot Strait and adopted as NGIT - Newfoundland Girls In Training. Canadian missionary children in India were introduced to CGIT shortly after it began here in Canada.

More recently, girls from each of Nigeria (Christian Girls In Training), Bermuda (Bermuda Girls In Training), and Trinidad (Christian Girls In Training) attended the 1985 National Camp Council at Camp Brereton in Manitoba.
