Alumnae Responses

This section allows alumnae of CGIT to provide their comments and feedback to the present direction of CGIT organizations across Canada.  It allows them to share their experiences, knowledge, and memories with new, young members.

Hi,

It is great to think that CGIT still has a part in our wonderful Church family. I have fond memories of my days in CGIT, my pride in wearing the middy, and the marvelous times at camp. The camp I attended for several years (in the early 60's) was Cedar Lodge on Lake Memphremagog in Quebec. I am not sure if that camp is still used.

For a brief time in the mid '80's another lady and I ran a CGIT group here (Kingston Pastoral Charge) and now I am involved with our presbytery summer camp. (Sherbrooke Lake).  I can still remember the poem I read each morning during Morning Watch:

Salutation to the Dawn

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendor of beauty
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow only a vision
But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore to this day!
Such is the salutation to the dawn.
- Kalidasa, Indian Poet

I wonder if this brings back memories to anyone else.

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know that I am now 49 years old and remember being part of the CGIT group when I was around 12 years old. The reason I looked up the CGIT was my Mom just gave me one of the crafts that I made while ! Was there. (Can’t believe she kept it all of these years).

The CGIT was a good group to join and I remember all that I learned while I was there. I am so glad that you are still around to give young girls guidance and self worth.

Keep up the good work.

I wish I still had my shirt to give to you for a pattern, but I’m afraid it is long gone.

P.S. Jacqueline’s maiden name was Wilson and she would love to hear from other women who were in her group.

I hope you can forward this to the right individual that can help identify this old sterling ring. It was found at Cooking Lake and was made at Birks.

Is it from an organization? It’s a small size 4 and was found on a very old unused beach at Cooking Lake.
